Early November's Delight

As Autumn whirls into November days, I discover the beauty of nature at its peeking hour. After reflecting on how to pen this blog (among the clutter of my days), I share my early November sights. One quote prepares what is stirring inside my mind. "November at its best - with a sort of delightful menace in the air."  (Anne Bosworth)

Delightful menace, what can that be? A leafnado, yes, or a strong breeze flipping my hair around while outside, yes. The combination of the words delightful menace that Anne Bosworth wrote about provides beautiful images dealing with leaves moving toward cars on the road, hairdos tossed about, and rainstorms or snowstorms throughout the month. With gratitude one should be thankful for the scenic views shared by Lady Autumn in November, the transition month.

With all of that mulling around in my mind, I decide to try writing a terzanelle, an invitation from the Poetry Sisters, Tanita, Laura, Tricia, Sara, Liz, and Mary Lee. You can click here to see their fabuolus poems. My try at the terzanelle is finally complete after multiple refinements.

Early November's Delight

Autumn paints a living canvas for its seasonal show,
adorned in stunning colors, November enters the air.
Trees peek before letting their radiance go.

Leaves twirl and twist as if they are aware,

moving to a rhythm that Lady Autumn directs.

Adorned in stunning colors, November enters the air.

With days of warmth, the sun our path protects,

life seems full of pleasant, neighborly walks

moving to a rhythm that Lady Autumn directs.

Nature trails - quiet time for poetic thoughts

flowing with thanks for this giving time.

Life seems full of pleasant, neighborly walks.

November decor becomes sublime,

carpeted in a collage of fallen leaves

flowing with thanks for this giving time.

The chilly Autumn wind sighs and grieves

carpeted in a collage of fallen leaves.

Autumn paints a living canvas for its seasonal show.

Trees peek before letting their radiance go.

    1. Mary Lee, thank you so much for adding your thoughts on my terzanelle. This poetic format took me hours to develop but at the end, I felt pleased with the way it flowed. PS: I would love to showcase one of your poems in the gallery.

  2. I was intimidated by the terzanelle form, Carol, but you took it on like a champ!

    1. Karen, the only way I was able to create a terzanelle was by slow steps and using mentor text. It is not easy at all. Thanks for joining me here.

  3. I love "carpeted in a collage of fallen leaves" -- the repetition lends itself to the soft finality that October's beauty is coming to rest, yet still life-giving in its beauty.

    1. Patricia, the collage of fallen leaves arose when I found a trail of magnificent colorful leaves on the ground. Unfortunately, I cannot find the grouping to make a collage of fresh-fallen colorful leaves. The ending line in your response is a lovely summary. Thank you.
