Am I an organized packer of our bags when traveling? Frankly no. I have been working on this for years. I think I am getting better at this but my son is not and always needs assistance so nothing is left behind. A case in point is the year we were going to my mother's burial and my son left his dress shoes at home. Thank goodness that my husband had his hush puppies. Proof number 2 is that his toiletry bag is missing from our Disney trip in late January. So you can see why packing for a trip regardless of how long it is makes us all worried that something will be left behind. I checked and double-checked the trunk before taking off to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a framily wedding.

ReplyDeleteIf you can believe this, my son remembered his phone charger while my husband and I forget them. At least we had one to charge our phones.
DeleteI'm enjoying your packing poem! But I find it too hard to keep it simple and add no extra clothing. I always play the what-ifs in my mind. What if you spill ketchup on the sweatshirt? What if the temperature drops too much at night? I am obsessive when it comes to packing and I certainly understand your concerns regarding your son. Good luck, and have a great wedding weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the one who spilled something on his new Nike sweat jacket this morning on the way to Pittsburg. My son saved the day by bringing his phone charger. Both my husband and I forgot ours. LOL! Keeping the clothing to a minimum is very difficult when you go to a different state or country where the weather is different than your locale.
DeleteI'm always so incredibly worried I'll forget something, and my mom's always reminded me: "the worst thing that can happen is that you have to buy something at the store at your destination?!" I usually end up feeling a little less stressed ha!
ReplyDeletePacking is a stressful business. I don't like having to anticipate what I may or may not need to wear, depending on changing weather conditions or last minute activities. I do have a list for necessary toiletries and meds, though, and that helps.
ReplyDeletePacking is stressful, Carol. What do I pack? What do I leave behind? Did I pack all I need? Am I forgetting something? Hope the worries are left behind and only joy is taken on the trip.

ReplyDeleteHa! My husband is famous for asking..."did you pack..." as we roll out of the driveway. It's a real skill packing "just right."
ReplyDeletePacking is one of those constant dilemmas ... in our family, my parents actually PRACTICE packing -- coming and going (lol). Enjoy your trip!

ReplyDeleteI hope you have gotten to where you are going and the festivities make it all worth while, Carol. Packing is a chore, no matter how well one does it. On our last trip in February, I packed a baggie of tea bags...then did not find what I did with them until the very last day of our trip when we were repacking to return home. At least it wasn't something essential. Enjoy your trip!

ReplyDeleteI am also challenged by packing and it's always a source of anxiety before a trip. "Get on the road with hope." That is usually the case, however. Thanks for sharing your poem, Carol, and experience.
