March is here with its mercurial spirit, continually changing from bitter storms to golden, sunny days. It's a month of transition for nature, from lion-like roaring to lamb-like gentleness. I march through March, a month of memories, a time to celebrate my husband's life, and honor his passing. The following poems come from my heart as I near the upcoming Year Two.
SUPPOSE-Then and Now
we weaved through life
like gentle lambs, calmer, calmer
moving through stormy weather
suppose we stretched across the skylike billowing clouds of beauty, slowly, slowlyfloating to nature's rhythm
suppose we meet in evening dreams
like fairies whispering, circling, circlinginto a magical web of forever

for her Wendell Berry-like poem
Suppose we did our work
like winter, renewing and replenishing
Readying ourselves for spring

Day 13, March 2026
12th year with Two Writing Teachers

I learned a new phrase “mercurial spirit”. :) Lovely to have a poem to illustrate it. Terje
ReplyDeleteTerje, thank you for joining me on this interesting Friday the 13th. Winter here has been a generous mix of a variety of weather effects. I bathed in the sunshine whenever the sun sent sunbeams down to the world and spent time near the glowing fireplace when the weather was cold and blustery. Enjoy the upcoming spring!

What beautiful lines. This is what I am hoping for.
Rita, may your hopes be filled with peaceful images of loved ones. Lately, many of them areappearing in my dreams, which is so comforting.
DeleteCarol, the nice thing about supposing is that what we suppose sometimes comes true...meeting in dreams...a love that stretches across the sky...a weaving of two lives each complementing the other. Bob
ReplyDeleteBob, your words are comforting and the last one is so true. Richard and I may have had different ways of looking at life around us but we did make it through some difficult times in our early life together. Your words made memories tucked away pop up. Thank you.
DeleteLove that "suppose we meet in evening dreams" and continue weaving together, Carol. It won't stop and you will carry on the memories of your being together. It's a post for all of us, too, dreaming of the past loving days that stay with us!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I am glad that you think that my post can be enjoyed by others. Thanks for reminding me that my memories will remain in my heart.
DeleteI am in such awe of how you honor your husband's memory. Your love is so strong and that makes me feel so comforted. I hope you are comforted!
ReplyDeleteI am comforted by your thoughts this morning.
DeleteA beautiful poem -- especially love "floating to nature's rhythm" and "fairies whispering, circling, circling, into a magical web of forever." The spiritual aspect of your poem makes a powerful statement -- your bond will never be broken.
ReplyDelete"Suppose we stretched across the sky" is a lovely line, Carol. I like its wistfulness.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem; love how the form ties you thoughts together. Your last stanza takes my breath; so poignant yet hopeful as it ends with the word "forever."
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...suppose. What wistful, wonderful thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. How lovely to honor your relationship with poetry. The repetition of "calmer" and "circling" felt so perfect as it let me sink into those words a bit more.
ReplyDeleteThese lines float and carry us along, "like fairies whispering, circling, circling
ReplyDeleteinto a magical web of forever" Lovely, thanks Carol!
Thanks, Michelle, for joining me here. I spent a couple of days thinking about this sequence of thoughts. I am happy with the outcome. I appreciate your response.
DeleteYour supposing has such a gentle and lyrical quality, Carol. Magical!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to you, Karen, for your lovely response. Have a magical day.
DeleteI love your second stanza with the "...billowing clouds of beauty, slowly, slowly/floating to nature's rhythm." I love that reference to rhythm, my OLW this year. Thanks also for sharing Jone's inspiration for your poem. We are certainly having mercurial March, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteRamona, it is fun exchanging slices this month with you. It feels like we are watching our lives intertwine as our families grow.
DeleteCarol, The "thens" are bittersweet in the "now." I hope you are meeting him in your dreams! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMercurial is definitely the right word for March! We've gone from 70 degrees to 20 degrees in just a few days. Some of the flowers and blooming trees might not make it through unscathed, but their life force is strong and they'll come back again next spring to try again. They inspire me!
