Halloween is always our family night of fun.
This year we are having a Halloween sleepover with the little grandgirls so we have been busy preparing. There's a Halloween wreath on the door with a little ghost smiling. As my little costumed characters walk through my front door I will shout out Happy Halloween. The foyer will have a variety of Halloween artifacts collected over the years. Every room will be decorated for the scavenger hunt. Dinner will not be ready so the grandgirls will have time to roam the house having old-fashioned fun. After dinner, we may even enjoy a walk in the dark to see what lurks outside and then they will put on their Halloween jammies and watch a Disney magic Halloween movie before bedtime. Regardless of age, Halloween is a time for memories to be built and Jack Prelutsky's It's Halloween book to be read.
Bringing Halloween to Life at Grandma's house!
out comes the broom
and more decorations
little tricksters will come soon
to visit Halloween stations
smiling ghosts float around
creating dazzling scenes
in their wispy gowns
there are no haunting dreams-
Halloween is a magical night
without ghastly fright

ReplyDeleteSigh, the idea of old-fashioned fun is so comforting in these crazy times. Your house with games and décor galore sounds so inviting. Did you read your poem to your granddaughters? It captures such a lightheartedness. I hope you had a wonderful Halloween, Carol!
Tracey, we had a fun Halloween weekend. Dressed in costumes the little girls pranced around the rooms looking for Halloween treasures from my family's past. I did not have time to read the poem but will do this weekend.
DeleteSo much fun, Carol! Your grands must adore coming to your house! What a joy to be gifted with a scavenger hunt inside, food, fun, and stories. Enjoy!
ReplyDeletePatricia, this was a fun-filled weekend. Yesterday, I had little Lila alone because I felt she needed time to feel better. The house was left messy when we brought her back home for the neighborhood outdoor party. Today, I will enjoy my memories as I clean up the toys.
DeleteHope it was spooktacular. Love the decorations and your plans for a fun evening. Lucky grand girls -- making memories to last a lifetime. :)
ReplyDeleteJama, thanks for visiting my blog. As for a spooktacular evening, we had a couple of those this weekend.
DeleteWhat fun for you and the grandgirls!
ReplyDeleteMy little pumpkins enjoyed our sleepover. Thanks for sharing our pre-Halloween fun, Mary Lee.
DeleteHope it was loads of fun, Carol! It certainly sounds like it! I love "out comes the broom" - perfect opening!
ReplyDeleteBetween baking and having fun with the girls, autumn life is splendid, Linda.
DeleteWait--when is the trick-or-treating?! Or is your neighborhood not suited for the door-to-door adventure? I miss the days when our kids trick-or-treated through the streets and we landed at the home of our neighborhood grandparents, where there was always an Argentinian stew cooked and served in an actual pumpkin. Yum! Your poem is also yummy.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, thanks for sharing your past Halloween fun. Argentinian stew-I never heard of that. I am enjoying roasting our pumpkins and baking cookies and veggie treats with the puree.
