Spiritual Journey to Wholeness/#SOL25

On this day of howling winds, I am pondering the Spiritual Journey Thursday theme of wholeness suggested by our host, Denise Krebs at Dare To Care. I am preoccupied as a caregiver for my husband who is battling a rare form of cancer in the pancreas and liver. I feel unsure of what the days ahead will be like so wholeness is something I would like to strive for.

What is Wholeness?

It is not the charred pieces of prolonged challenges that breaks my hearts. It is not the damaged bits of aloneness or the stirring unsettled pressures of worry and discontent. Wholeness is like a puzzle coming together with patience (another something I need to acquire).

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, wholeness is the quality of being or feeling complete and not divided or damaged. In a spiritual sense, wholeness is the Unseen Hand gathering the broken or damaged pieces of my journey and binding them together. Support is needed to continue my journey of faith and hope and bringing healing moments to the assorted chipped pieces.

I found this beautiful quote by Maya Angelou and penned a draft poem that moves me from sadness to a renewed outlook. ⬇

Nothing can dim the light that shines from within. - Maya Angelou

Nessessity
healing the dark sadness of nothing
requires a light within that can
not be dim
it must fill the
everyday moments with bright light
slowly opening that
portal which shines
and restores the soul from
unwanted stress to newness within

Golden Shovel from Maya Angelo

A New Day Awakens
on a winter day an azure blue sky looks down on life

whispy cloud-cushions prepare for flight
as angels circulate sprinkling earth with warmth to awaken life

nature floods earth
with the spirit of wholeness
the journey continues

  1. Carol, "In a spiritual sense, wholeness is the Unseen Hand gathering the broken or damaged pieces of my journey and binding them together". I love the image of God's unseen hand holding us together. If not for Him, we would be scattered by the wind. When our lives become fragmented, it is His love that holds us together and lets us know we can go on. Bob

On another note, Carol, your link at TWT is not working. You might want to check into it.

  3. First of all, I am glad I wasn't the only one to combine both writing tasks today! Secondly...you are in a tough spot, and I pray for both you and your husband. It must have been hard to think of wholeness as you are literally managing the frailty of the human body. How wise to know that wholeness is rarely achieved without divine intervention.

    1. Chris, thank you so much for your prayers. Life is difficult right now. I am grateful that the new oncologist we met today told us about a new treatment for the rare type of cancer my husband has.

Thank you for your thoughts on wholeness. Also sending thoughts and prayers for you and your husband. The journey is never the same… but there is a sense of understanding when you’ve gone through cancer with a loved one. So thoughts and prayers are sincere, and full. Not empty words.

  5. Carol, wonderful post. I'm thinking of you daily. Sending prayers your way. This: "...wholeness is the Unseen Hand gathering the broken or damaged pieces of my journey and binding them together." So true! I love the idea of "restores the soul from / unwanted stress to newness within" Those cloud angels in the blue winter sky are just beautiful.

  6. Carol this is Patricia. I am praying for that “light within that cannot be dimmed”. For you, your husband, your family. I know you lean to faith and letting God carry you. Know that we, your spiritual friends, walk with you in prayer, each carrying a broken piece In accompaniment. xoxo

  7. Carol, I pray for your husband and you daily. My prayers are filled with pleas for friends who battle illness (seen and unseen). Your words have filled me with joy many times. May you lean on your faith during this time. May you be strengthened for the journey. May the spirit of wholeness fill your days with He who knows our struggles and will help us. Hugs and love, and prayers, my friend.
