A Rainy Easter Finds Joy

Winter fades, and springtime weather spouts like seeds on the ground. Easter glory is anticipated. Surprisingly, rain pours down on Easter Sunday. We drive to my little grandgirls, who wait with Easter glee for morning rain to turn to sunshine. In the meantime, the six-year-old starts a conversation about Grandpa in heaven. Will he come back to see us? She wants to know. "You might see him in your dreams like I do." Then, my almost three-year-old asks, "Is Grandpa above? She points to the ceiling, and I smile while the conversation continues during these moments of love and kindness.

It's time for Easter Sunday Mass. The three little girls are ready to share their fashion show of matching sweater outfits, hairstyles with bows, and small purses. Spring rains start shouting with loud roars. People, like me, dash into the church. The falling rain does not quit; its roar pounds on the roof during Mass. After the beautiful ceremony, people stand in line to have photos taken at Christ has Risen photo op. Then, everyone dashes through the rain to their cars. With family and friends, we drive to our favorite, nearby Italian restaurant for Sunday dinner. "Dad would love this day," my son says as we exit.

Easter Sunday Thoughts

Today, morning broke with sunshine that pierced through the sky. Churchbells chimed in sync to verify the truth. Resurrection Sunday brought renewal to life, whether it be human life or nature's tending to the earth. Spring's path will continue with its sweet scents floating through the sky like burning incense rises and perfumes an altar.
As the 40 days of Lent ended, so has the 31 days of the 17th Annual Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Story Challenge. Challenges may have created pauses along the way but faith brought each writer closer to the end of a faithful journey. May each new friend I met find continue to write with zest and the many slicers I have met throughout my 10 years of slicing continue to meet each Tuesday of the year. I look forward to continued friendships.

As evening slows life down,

Memories of this Easter Sunday family day

Spins around like a top.

Faith and love connect.

Blossoms open.

Hearts renew.

Easter - A Day of Joy

Easter is a day of joy filled with many childhood memories. The following quote by an unknown speaker reminds me of the order of importance on Easter Sunday.  "It’s not about the bunny, it’s about the Lamb (of God)."

Easter always started with a beautiful special Sunday Mass. Many Easter hats paraded into St. John Neuman Church. After Mass, each family went home to a brunch followed by an Easter egg hunt. This year, my little grandgirls took part in the same traditions that were shared by my own children. Their day started with flouncy Easter dresses and photos after Mass.

While dinner was being prepared, the girls waited patiently for the Easter egg hunt to take place in their beautiful nature-surrounded backyard.

When the egg hunt festivities were ready, the extended family cheered the little grandgirls and their one-year-old cousin onward to search for the eggs the Easter Bunny left in the yard.

The excitement mounted as the girls moved from the backyard to the front yard.
They peek.
They shriek.
They see another treasure.
Egg hunting is such a pleasure!
