Join me for a strange Poemtober journey enroute to Halloween. Just stay a short time for a poetic diversion into the bizarre world of seasonal decorations.
All it takes is one ticket and a few moments to enter a world of bloodcurdling howling and ghoulish fright with a cast of strange characters.

🍁👻🍂
monsters are out tonight
rushing from their tombs
bony bodies full of fright
crushing autumn blooms.
🍁👻🍂
Halloween 2020 may not take on the same outdoor fun of years past BUT
this virtual Haunted House Journey will provide a new normal experience.
🍁👻🍂
I'm off on my virtual broom to fly into the Poetry Friday Roundup at Jama's Alphabet Soup. Jama Rattigan, the ultimate hostess, always serves edible and non-edible treats of poetic goodness.
Love your haunted poem/picture pairings, Carol!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kimberly. I had fun writing it.
DeleteOh my goodness, Carol, those are such creepy images from the neigbbors. And you taking them & creating the poem is so creative. Ha! Boo to you, too!
ReplyDeleteI accept your Boo and hoping for more Halloween goodies to come my way in the form of poetry, Linda. Halloween at your site next week should be a fun treat minus the tricks.
DeleteYou weren't kidding when you said, "bizarre world of seasonal decorations", Carol! Your poetry makes the macabre scenes easier to look at. I especially like your pairing of "tombs" and "blooms". :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for take the journey with me, Bridget. One of the houses in town that I use in the above pictures added more macabre scenes to their outdoor show and I am itching to stop by to see what new poem can be inspired.
DeleteCreepy!!
ReplyDeleteSome of the homes seem to have an creepier edge to them this year. I wonder if that is because the pandemic is making everyone stir crazy, Ruth.
DeleteLove it, Carol! Amazing ...
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining me, Karen. Writing is my saving grace this year. Your photo and poem of a serene autumn scene at your blog has launched more inspiration for me.
DeleteGreat images and poems, Carol. Monsters are only figments of our imaginations or the nightly news.
ReplyDeleteLove your response, Bob. Grim details of real life are in the nightly news constantly.
Delete*shudders* OH, all those creepy heads rising up out of the ground! Your neighborhood seems to go all out for Halloween (we only have one family who does such elaborate decorations). Thanks for this scary post; love all the pic and poem pairings!
ReplyDeleteRockville Centre is noted for its beautiful seasonal decorations and bizarre mixed with delightful Halloween ones. Since I am moving to VA I have all my autumn splendor decorations out and packed the Halloween ones for my little granddaughters.
DeleteQuite the haunted post, you have Carol - I love the idea of bony bodies crushing blooms!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for reading the post and commenting, Matt.
DeleteCarol, what horrifying images! Decapitated offerings! You are ready, I'd say for the big night!
ReplyDeleteJanice, I am soaking in some more seasonal sights in different parts of the nieghborhood. There is always A new perspective in the dark.
DeleteCarol, these are certainly some creepy pictures. Your poem and image are a perfect match!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking part in my Haunted House Poemtober Journey, Linda. I found more sights during my walk tonight. Less creepy but effective...
DeleteWOW! I especially love "day shift starts now." This has unleashed your inner evil sense of humor, Carol! Wonderful pairings.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, Laura, my husband says I have no sense of humor. Maybe it is slowing finding its way out (another offshoot of the pandemic perhaps...)
DeleteOh, what fun....I'm fond of the hag. I know that look...I am that look many times. What Halloween fun. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYes, I had Halloween fun with this post, Linda. I went out for an evening walk last night and found more interesting sights, less creepy but still fodder for my imagination. I will be seeing you soon in VA.
DeleteAh, Carol. So many decorations are so ghoulish which you captured in your poems. Creepy, though, indeed. I am more of a traditionalist in the Halloween costume, decor department, but it is nice to see people reaching out to bring some pizzazz to their neighborhoods! And these are definitely well, creepy town!
ReplyDeleteYes, Janet, Rockville Centre likes to keep up with decorations each season.Whether they are creepy, elegant, or rich in color, the treats are there for walkers to enjoy.
DeleteI love this little collection of poems. The characters you found. And perfect song, “Sweet Dreams”.
ReplyDeleteWho knew that Karloff would pair beautifully with "Sweet Dreams" and fit nicely with the monsters. Thanks for joining me, Jone.
DeleteTotally creeped out over here, thank you very much! (So. Much. Fun.)
ReplyDeleteYes, of course you may use my acrostic in your fall gallery! Thanks for asking!
Mary Lee, I am glad that the creepiness of what I saw has the effect I wanted. Thanks for the autumn acrostic.
DeleteCarol, you have succeeded admirably in sending the chills and shudders and fear--but give me smiling pumpkins every time!
ReplyDeleteLove your poetic response, Heidi. Well said! I think my 3-year-old-granddaughter might agree with you.
DeleteYikes, that's some block party you've got going on in your neighborhood, Carol! The clown hugz would do me in, I'm afraid. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteIf you thought one photo of the clowns was enough, you should see the house with multiples life-size clowns, Michelle.
DeleteCarol, I love your post. It is spooky, creative, and fun! The idea of Poemtober is new to me but I think it's great! Having a word bank to work with would be fun to use with students, too! Thanks, as always, for the inspiration! (I hope this goes through today. I tried to leave a comment on Friday but we were at our cabin and it disappeared!)
ReplyDeleteCarol, I am grateful for your comment and glad that I picked up on it tonight. Thank you for enjoying the spooky fun. I just finished watching Villains Night on Dancing With the Stars and am further inspired to create a #spookyseason blog post again.
DeleteThanks for the blood-curdling, scream-filled post, Carol–how ghostly, ghoulishly good, especially like the Boris Karloff and Eurythmics! Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI was able to find good information from your blog articles. In MeanWhile please visit halloween fun house
