Winter Snowblast 2021

Before the storm
Weather channels announced the "coming of a winter blast". Preparations were made, snowblowers in high demand. Most people snuggled indoors waiting for the event.

Storm brewing.
Winter wish:
Fill your day with cozycalm,
Mindful practice.

Then, the Storm Came.
Snuggled in blanket-warmth,
white powder masses paraded in.
Nighttime darkness
masked the entry.

Why do we quickly tear down the beauty of winter snow
to enjoy the convenience of passing streets?

When I was a child, it seemed that snowstorm pile-ups were left untouched for days. The sheer beauty of pristine snowscapes remains in my mind as a remembrance of winter peace.

Snow was falling
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.

  1. As someone who hasn't ever seen snow, I find snowstorms fascinating, beautiful too. I wonder if I'm romanticising them, if the inconvenience trumps the beauty of it.
I loved this-- Why do we quickly tear down the beauty of winter snow to enjoy the convenience of passing streets?

    1. Tulika, where do you live that you have never seen snow? The freshness of fallen snow is sometimes breathtaking but there is the aftermath that brings the upheaval - interrupting life to shovel. When neighbors are all outside during the shoveling, it is a communal activity worth some of the effort. Thanks for enjoying the pristine quality of fresh fallen snow.

  3. So many beautiful images here..." Snuggled in blanket-warmth,
white powder masses paraded in." Beautiful how you captured the many dimensions of a lovely but powerful snowstorm.

    1. Thank you, Lanny. Now that I have documented the beauty, we are left with the clean-up here on Long Island. Neighbors started the shoveling process this afternoon but more snow started to fall.

  4. Carol, I don't know what is prettier than freshly fallen snow. The pure white covering blanketing the imperfections of the world. Yet, we are in a rush to remove this pureness and not take the time to enjoy its beauty.

    1. I like that thought of yours-"the pure white covering blanketing the imperfections of the world." Could you pair that thought with a nature photo of Pennsylvania and the winter snow storm for my Winter's Embrace 2021 Gallery? I want to share winter's beauty from around the globe.

  5. Carol, you always find the poetry in each moment. Lovely images and poetry. We should allow the snow to Rest In Peace a while longer from time to time.

    1. If we look for beauty we will find it in nature, Glenda. The snow still wants to come down here on Long Island.
