Sweet Beach Memories

Sweet beach memories float on by. It has been months since I walked across a beach feeling the sand massaging my toes.  I pause to recall the morning sun offering warmth, gulls swooping across the ocean, and frolicking sounds of children swooshing in ebullient waves. Summer brings its own magic to the shore-nature's handpainted seascape. Mother Nature blends muted shades rising above a cream sand layer. To replicate the look, artists reach into their palettes mixing jetty gray with blue sky. Blending my love of photography with digital art, I create memories of my seaside times of gratitude.

Finding life's balance is easier at water's edge so next week
I am off to Cape May, NJ for a mini-vacation where I plan to create new memories.

😎😎😎

For now, I travel to the blog of Poetry Friday's host Aussie poet/Kidlit author, Kathryn Apel. Join me to read through her #petpicpoem at the Poetry Friday Roundup. You will find many other poets who provide their own poetic goodness there. Thanks for sharing some beachside memories with me.

  1. So many lovely, yearning lines here. I couldn't resist this little tweak to make a new beach poem from some of my favourite Carol-lines;

    sunkissed shoreline;
    serenity floats in surf
    listening to ocean's roar

    Enjoy Cape May!

    1. Love your new poem, Kat. May I use it in my Nurturing our Summer Souls collection? Do you have. Beach photo from Australia?

  2. Cape May NJ looks enchanting, I'd like to dive right in… I like your "cream sand layer" description, your assortment of soft sea images, and "Finding life's balance is easier at water's edge—" I couldn't agree more. Thanks for this seaside rendezvous Carol, and enjoy your get-away!

    1. I am dreaming of Victorian homes, cream-colored sand, and lobster, Michelle. I can’t wait to drive to Delaware and hop on the ferry to Cape May. It will be a wonderful pandemic getaway!

  3. Carol, these lines illustrate for me that balance you find at the water's edge of which you speak:
    "listening to ocean's roar
    tranquil calmness"

    So beautiful. I love what you've done with your photos too. Enjoy your getaway!

    1. Digitizing my photos creates a new layer of inspirational prompts for me, Denise. I find such peace at the ocean and can't wait to see Cape May in its summer glory. Perhaps, I will have a new set of digital art to spark poems that will nurture my summer soul.

  4. I'm not a beach person, but your photos and descriptions could almost make me one!

    1. Mary Lee, I think we become the ___ person by the environment we live in. Before living on Long Island, I did not have the opportunity to beach but I was a sun worshipper. The beach and ocean are alluring and wash me with salted sea water. My newest obsession is baking chocolate chip cookies sprinkled with sea salt.

  5. You are a go to source for beach poetry and images that match and inspire. I love how the photos become paintings. We live in an amazing world that can make that happen!

  6. I love all of your beach poetry. We only live about 20 minutes away from the beach, but we don't seem to go as often as I would like!

    1. Ah, the days have passed that I could jump in the car and go to the beach in 15 minutes. Tomorrow, we travel to the Jersey shore and it will take us 3 hours to get to the Delaware ferry and then on to Cape May. Do you think your children would like to write a poem about your unique animal pets because I am sure the group would make for an interesting image poem in my Nurturing Our Summer Souls collection.

  7. A sweet and inviting collection of summery thoughts here Carol. They have warmed me in the depths of a windswept winter day.

    1. Alan, how interesting that there are contrasts like these in our lives. I am glad that summer thoughts are warming your day. I did not showcase my winter gallery yet and think I will save it for November. If you have an image poem of your winter season send it on to me please. Thank you.

  8. Carol, I love these--especially that sunkissed shoreline! Your brief poems and muted filtered photos are just things of beauty! Enjoy your mini-trip :>)

  9. Beautiful poems and painted images. I especially resonate with the last poem "listening to ocean's roar/tranquil calmness" because listening to the ocean/birds/kids while wading/walking, waves frothing cool kisses on my legs is exactly what I love to do and miss it terribly. You have inspired me to take my comments above and write a poem. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. Have a great time squishing your feet in wet sand, hearing the gull's cries, breathing in that salty air, and feeling the wind whip your hair. :)
