As the snow settles, I sit by the fire listening to the silence of winter hush. Trees dipped in snow-like crystals and candlelights aglow add a cozy ambiance to the indoor scene I created. Looking outward through the dual fireplace, I revel in the beauty of fallen snow asleep in hiemal slumber. I search YouTube and find a soothing video, Winter Solace, that adds to the ambiance. Meditative music floats through the air as I read a thought to ponder:
"It's time to appreciate the simple, yet profound beauty of a snowy landscape."
I wonder and write, calling up my 2022 one little word, appreciate.

stilled apricity

appreciate winter's peace

Have you thought about the soundless pattern of falling snow? May Novala Takemoto's beautiful quote, "Snow falling soundlessly in the middle of the night will always fill my heart with sweet clarity," bring you solace.
My Slice of Life
for
Carol, we can always tell when it is snowing here without looking out the window. There is a stillness and quiet that is not matched by anything else. There is a sense of peace about it. There is beauty in freshly fallen snow.
ReplyDeleteBob, I have been surprised by the snowfall lately. The hush is different but the beauty the same. Thanks for stopping by and stay warm.
DeleteSuch a bounty of poetic thinking! Loved this. Beautiful quote by Novala Takemoto; I was not familiar with it. I love the idea of "appreciate winter's peace" - yes, this is snowfall's gift.
ReplyDeleteMaureen, thank you for joining for a some winter inspiration. I remember times when the blizzards made everyone cranky, including me. Last year before I moved to VA from Long Island I must have shoveled the driveway and walkway several times over the course of a week and half but this year we have a snow service that clears our community roads, driveways and sidewalks. That is something wonderful that I appreciate.
DeleteLove this appreciation of winter. It's beautiful. Today in our writer's club a student wrote a beautiful poem about winter - I wish I had taken a picture - and now I come home and read your beautiful slice. :-) This must be because just this morning I was talking to my neighbor about how we were now done with winter and all the shoveling!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Carol! I love your fireplace, too! We are enjoying our last full day on Maui and getting ready to head back to the sub-zero temps in Wisconsin! You reminded me that winter can be as soothing and beautiful as a Hawaiian beach! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace is lovely, and your words create an ethereal, sublime scene. I awakened to 12 degree temps and more snow on the ground this morning. I am weary of both cold and snow at this juncture.
ReplyDeleteI am contemplating "the soundless pattern of falling snow," Carol - it is almost a meditation in itself. Your poems have such a comforting lull - "slow down" is exactly what winter whispers to us. We need it. We also need to appreciate more deeply. It ushers peace. So lovely.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love your winter appreciation! Your words and poems are winter gifts. I especially love this line "powdered confection and frost". Sunday my husband and I went cross country skiing, which I love to do because I'm out in fresh air enjoying winter's beauty. I lied back in the snow looking up at the hemlock trees as snow fell on my face. The falling snow mesmerized me; being present in that winter moment was meditative. Your post has also been meditative. Thank you for sharing comfort, winter peace, joy, and inspiration. I'm going to write a poem about Sunday. :)
