As the summer heat continues, air-conditioned living is a must. Yesterday, I entered a large store and was surprised that the air conditioning system was not working properly. It is difficult for staff to work all day in these conditions. Air conditioning is a mood booster that most people are used to but it was not always this way. With a positive look at summer life, I offer a quote shared by Linda Baie. "Hold summer in your hand, pour summer in a glass, a tiny glass of course, the smallest tingling sip for children; change the season in your veins by raising a glass to lip and tilting summer in." -Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
I am tilting summer in with The Poetry Sisters whose challenge this month is to write a poem in the form of monotetra and tag it with the label, #PoetryPals. You can learn more about it at Writer's Digest.
I never tried writing a monotetra before so this challenge has been more challenging than I thought. The heat has been on my mind, the bounty of the flowers, and the urgency of watering. Besides that, I am participating in the summer poem swaps. These ideas found a way into my poem along with some inspiration I need.
I love tilting summer in with your blushing hydrangea! So calming.
ReplyDeleteThe quote is a special one. I am so glad that I copied it when Linda Baie shared it at Poetry Friday.
DeleteOh, nicely done, Carol! Love the extra -ops in flip-flops in second stanza. And...ack, I went to the gym first thing and didn't water my plants first. Grateful your post reminded me!
ReplyDeleteThe sounds of the rain in here are so perfect! And what gorgeous, gorgeous hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteLove that you remembered the quote, Carol, it is a favorite of mine for summer. You created such a beautiful monotetra, and you had me smiling from that first line: "hydrangea's summer blush smiles". I don't have any at home but love seeing them around the neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteLinda, my hydrangeas are so beautiful. I planned on filling one of my vases with the flowers but I got sick for the past two weeks. I am slowly getting back to normal. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
DeleteCarol, oh how sweet. I love "let go of trials." I'm having so much fun with this summer's poetry swap too. I love the shoutout to the exchange: "breathe in summer's sweetened swaps" Yes, breathe the love deeply.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas "summer blush."
