It's August and what better way to spend the dog days of summer than by the shore. The ocean has a certain lure. Perhaps, it is the lull of the ocean waves or the peace that surrounds a day at the beach. Ever since we left the beauty of Long Island's south shore beaches, we miss the ocean more and more. Each summer, we indulge in a family trip to Cape May, New Jersey set against the Atlantic Ocean. Below you will find various photos of the splendor of Cape May's beach area.
I breathe in the heat of summer,
Revile in waves rushing to shore.
Search for shells, unique newcomers.
Duck from gulls who search, shriek, and soar.
I wiggle my toes in warm sand,
Watch billowy clouds pass on by,
Indulge in August's sunkissed land,
Long for fresh blueberry peach pie.
Summer remains forever in
Grateful hearts filled with endless joy.
Be inspired. Dive in. Begin.
Embrace each summer day, Enjoy

Thank you, Tabatha Yeatts, for hosting the Poetry Friday Round-up this week. Travel to her blog post The Opposite of Indifference, to see a poem that will make you laugh. I am signing in late for the Roundup because we were traveling home from our enjoyable summer vacation at the beach.
Diving in! Yes, I dove right into this post this morning and just the words, "blueberry, peach pie" YUM! I've not had that combination before. I think I need to try that one. What a great time with family and summer warmth. Love it all!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I went back to the pie stand for the blueberry, peach pie and the salesperson said that they were all gone. Now, I have that on my mind. I just might make it when I have a chance.
DeleteDucking from gulls and wiggling toes in sand...ah. The ocean is the only "place" thing I miss about Florida. I'm so glad you get to return to your ocean each summer, Carol!
ReplyDeleteCarol, your poem was a refreshing invitation to just live the experiences that make up summer. Thank you for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteAhh...I feel the pulse slowing and the unwinding, relaxing day settling upon me - just reading your words. I hope your time at the shore allows plenty of time for BE-ing.
ReplyDeleteI love the watching waves and clouds, and blueberry peach pie sounds delicious. Lots of great images!
ReplyDeleteWish I could dig my toes in with you, Carol. I love all the beachy love in your poem. Wishing you many happy days!
ReplyDeleteYes to diving in and enjoying every moment of every day, whether summer or winter!
ReplyDeleteSo much beach goodness! Looks like a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's so hard to leave the shore! (I *love* that first stanza, Carol!)
ReplyDeleteCape May is a favorite of mine, too! We should go together some day! I'll meet you at the lighthouse!
ReplyDeleteI liked the detail of ducking from the gulls. Glad you are saving your summer joy in your heart!
ReplyDeleteBlueberry peach pie! I am so there. I enjoyed reading your appreciative summer ode, Carol. One day soon I hope to visit Cape May.
ReplyDeleteCarol, "I wiggle my toes in warm sand" - Yes! I got to do that today on a hot day in Seattle. Beautiful! And yes, please, for blueberry peach pie. Yummy post.
ReplyDeleteI can taste and feel the waves rushing by in your lovely August poem– and my toes are ready for more of that "warm sand," thanks for bringing us there Carol!
ReplyDeleteI feel so lucky to live so close to the sea, there's nothing quite like walking barefoot on the sand on a hot sunny day!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder to savor these summer days! I miss the ocean scent, but Lake Michigan's lakeshore subs fairly well. Grateful!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love your poem and also enjoy the beach - in many of the ways you so eloquently wrote in your poem. I am grateful for warm summer days, clean water to refresh me and the sound of waves. I also love the sound of loons that we have at the lake. Thanks for the reminder to savor the summer. It's always gone too quick!
