As March draws to a close, I look to April for all things poetic to come to be.
"National Poetry Month each April is the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K-12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, bloggers, and, of course, poets marking poetry's important place in our culture and our lives." (poets.org)
To bring digital awareness of poetry to social media, I will devote this month to unveil my global galleries of artistic expressions, Abundant Autumn and Winter's Embrace. You may even see an invitation to write about springtime splendor.
Special Announcement: On Monday, April 8th #NYEDChat and #WonderChat will combine to discuss "Creating A Positive School Culture With Poetry." Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong, poets and publishers, will co-host the Twitter chat from 8:00-8:30 pm EST so please mark your calendar.

Two Writing Teachers
LOVE IT! working with 4th graders, you start to see a mix of culture differences come out and the students are at their beginning of finding themselves. This year, I had a few students who were taking turns "roasting" each other - we got to the bottom of it, and saw they were using the little things they knew about music (specifically rap music). Instead of dropping the hammer down, we began investigating some very interesting lyrics and how the singer/author brought the words from poetry. I now have 3 song writers in my room who share their positive vibes with myself, other staff members, and their peers. I never thought I would say this in the past - but poetry is probably my favorite topic to teach!
ReplyDeleteDan, you got the poetry vibe and so do your students. We need to understand what makes our students tick, find their passions or cultivate them. I look forward to having you join our poetry chat on the 8th. Thank you stopping by.
DeleteI will add the info about the twitter chat and your NPM unveilings in my Roundup.
ReplyDeleteYour opening poem is so lovely, Carol!
Jama, thank you, I was going to write you about these so I appreciate you adding my information.. I will tweet out your site when it is completely full with NPM information.
DeleteThis April I am teaching poetry first time in a really long time! I'll have to pay close attention to poetry events and see how I could incorporate one or two into our curriculum! Thank you for your post and the reminders!
ReplyDeleteJaana, I would love for you to join our chat. Maybe you will get some great ideas to carry through in your classroom. If your students write spring poems, I would enjoy showcasing them in my future spring gallery. Happy last day of slicing.
DeleteYour plans sound good. Perhaps we won't have to sleep this April with all the wonderful plans coming! Have a wonderful weekend before APRIL begins, Carol.
ReplyDeleteLinda, the weekend has taken a different turn. I have a wicked sore throat and a low-grade fever but my husband was kind enough to bring me breakfast in bed (one of my favorite things). Happy April. I hope I can rally in time to enjoy April Fool;s Day-always a fun one around my house.
DeleteCarol, you are one extraordinary spreader of poetic love! I'm looking forward to your autumn and winter galleries, your line in the progressive poem and hearing you share the Twitter chat. Love the alliteration and quiet in your Softness of Morning haiku. Happy April!
ReplyDeleteRamona, thanks for joining me here to read my plans. They are wide in scope and because I had so many life intersections this year, I was never able to garner enough time to unveil the autumn gallery. NPM is a good time to give tribute to all those who contributed. Happy last day of slicing.
DeleteNo better way to launch Poetry Month than with Sylvia and Janet!!
ReplyDeleteYES! I am excited to have them as guest hosts, Mary Lee. I hope you can join in. Thanks for stopping by here. I hope to join you for a couple of poems, if the time permits.
DeleteWhat a pretty line, march on morning. I am right there with you....back stage, warming up, getting ready for Poetry Month!
ReplyDeleteYES for Poetry Month's arrival-I will look forward to what you will be bringing to the event, Linda. Have a wonderful Sunday.
DeleteLove your poem, especially that first strong line- March on morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the twitter chat and also seeing how this year's progressive poem unfolds.
Kimberly, I am happy that you are considering joining us for the Twitter chat. It should be a good one that will bring in many people from different parts of the country. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
DeleteThere just so much to look forward to this April, I'm so excited!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining me here, Jane. I am sure that there will be an enormous amount of poetic goodness flowing around social media this month.
DeleteHave a wonderful month, Carol. We don't have NPM in Australia - so it catches me unawares every time. But I'm working on a verse novel - which means I'm writing a poem a day, anyway. And that's my joy! Enjoy your month of creativity. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kat. I would enjoy hearing more about your new verse novel. What is it about? What grade level is it geared for? Have a good time with your poem a day venture.
DeleteI can't wait for this next springtime splendor invitation! I always enjoy reading and participating in your galleries! Thank you for your inspiring words!
