March Musings '19: Climate Change

How many citizens of the world really care about Planet Earth? There is so much beauty surrounding us but yet do we recognize the need to honor our planet and safeguard it for future generations?  Each one of us needs to do our part to preserve the world.

Today, teens across the world answered the call to action and raised their voices as part of a global protest movement for action on climate change. These teens as spokespersons and future citizens are asking us to listen to their thoughts. Shall we?

Alexandria is the 13-year-old #ClimateJustice Activist who is the Co-Leader for @ClimateStrikeUS. Alexandria sent this tweet from New York City today where throngs of teens rallied.

While I could not attend the NYC rally this morning, I am following the tweets for #ClimateStrike. I have waited patiently for the Twittersphere to recognize this global event as a trending-worthy outcry of #stuvoice from youth across the world.

Humbly, I offer my poem created with the digital storytelling platform, Buncee as my action step to address the climate crisis issue. I will send this out into the world of social media to shed light on the power of student voice in a world that needs action to generate hope for a bright future.

Please listen to Love Song to the Earth, a hopeful song  praising Earth while noting, "Tomorrow's in our hands now."

Earth's a vessel of beauty
To be safeguarded and loved.
Tomorrow is in our hands!

Take up the call for action.
Understand its urgency.
Tomorrow is in our hands!

I send a thank you to the young advocates led globally by @GretaThunberg for their diligent work as agents of change. I also send gratitude to poet Heidi Mordhorst for informing the Poetry Friday community about this worldwide event. Heidi, as host of Poetry Friday provides detailed information about the movement at her site, my juicy universe. Please visit and then check out Twitter that is being fired up by the #ClimateStrike movement.

    1. I was so impressed with what these teens are doing that when I taught a labsite demonstration in a 7th grade classroom yesterday, I mentioned the initiative. I will be writing a follow-up slice on this tomorrow or Sunday, Diane. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Catherine. I remember the days when people used to throw their trash out the windows on the NYS Thruway. Because that problem was addressed through the topic of recycling, it became ingrained in the minds of school children who grew up to be parents. I hope the youth of today can make a markable change in the way adults view climate change.

    1. Thank you, Kimberly. I am in love with the song I found. It holds such a strong message. I listened to it this morning while I was perusing photos sent from my daughter who is skiing in Jackson Hole with the family. The scenes are so pristine and expansive-a beautiful collection of Mother Nature's brush strokes.

    1. Heidi, I love this song so much. Thinking back on my career trying to bring awareness to the quest to save the planet. So many years have gone by and we are still raising our voices to bring about change. Thanks for bringing our attention to this movement.

  8. I am hopeful that with these young people standing strong and with many who believe in what they're doing that change can happen, that action to combat climate change will not be set aside. Well said, Carol!

  9. Thanks for your rich post and strong Climate Change poems promoting the #climatestrike Carol! I also couldn't attend the March yesterday but have been spreading news about it wherever I can. I'm also getting involved with a local group that I highlighted on my blog post, CAPA Chicago Area Peace Action, and will assist with climate change activities.

  10. Even here in Ottawa, children came to protest at Parliament. May we, the adults, respond before it is too late. Thank you for highlighting this movement.

    1. Good to know that Ottawa had a rally, too. I just finished my second slice call to action for Day 16. I related the global rally with the daily classroom efforts for #stuvoice to rise at Two Writing Teachers, Day 16. Thanks for stopping by Amanda.
