My Packing Conundrum_MarchSOLSC 10

It's a puzzlement to me but I'm getting better at packing for out-of-town trips. Even a short, three-day business trip seems to be a project. I think about what size of luggage I should take and what type of clothes should be worn. I even wonder how many pairs of shoes I need to pack. Being stylish does have its drawbacks when preparing for a trip.

This past trip, albeit one of those quick turnarounds, was filled with decision making and questions. Which outfit for my presentation would pair well with my travel clothes? What color family would work for a good mix and match of clothing? To make sure everything I need gets packed, I write don't forget list for medicine, toiletries, computer equipment, phone, and essentials.

Even with all of this preparation for my last trip, I forgot a few key pieces. After a six-hour drive to Central New York, I decided to lay out my clothes for the conference presentation. Dipping into my cavernous bag, I realized there were missing pieces. A few clothing essentials were left in my lingerie chest at home. Luckily, I did not panic even when I realized that my computer bag was left in my sister's car after dinner. Plan B went into effect.  The next morning, I was not only fully-dressed for the conference but had my computer equipment and ready to have a good laugh with friends.

With another trip to see my granddaughters in Virginia coming up, I am going to triple check my bag, add new items to my don't forget list, and add Marie Kondo tips to solve the packing conundrum.

  1. Packing, always a challenge. When I packed for my trip to Italy, a friend helped me. She should hire out as a packing consultant. She was the best! I always think that if we travel enough, we will eventually get this figured out. And I'm curious about how Plan B solved your problems!

    1. Plan B-well, it is laughable. I forgot the underwear that was neatly stacked in my drawer-color-coordinated of course so I had to wash the one and only pair each night and dry it with the hair dryer. No tights but I was lucky that my black thicker socks were super long knee socks and I was wearing gaucho pants and a matching jacket (that I got compliments on). Computer bag remained at my sister's until the next morning so I had to go to the hotel computer room (in my satin PJs with coat over them) that was in another building to write my slice and send it off. Problems solved!

  2. Packing is tricky. In every day life we always have a choice form our cupboard. When we travel we never know exactly what we need, especially with a changing weather. Since I have travelled quite a bit in the past few years, I have become pretty good. I tend to pack light.

    1. I am glad that you are a good packer, Terje. It is a very useful skill. I think I overthink each packing move but I am getting better.

  3. I am one of the worst packers ever. I don't usually forget anything because I have over-packed with things I didn't need. Maybe one day I will learn the secret of packing wisely and follow those suggestions.

    1. I used to overpack and that didn't work so I spend time trying to whittle down what I am taking and using a color family to limit my choices. Still need help though.

  4. As I finally sit tonight, I just spent hours packing for my children and am too exhausted to pack your myself! Sounds like your stylish ways make it more difficult (me too)! I usually Google what to wear in...(insert city or country). Then, I look at the outfit slides to usually discern I own half of what they suggest. Problem solved. I use someone's packing ideas. It worked great for my Nashville trip in October!

    1. That sounds like a plan that works. What did you type into Google to find what you were looking at? Thanks for stopping by.
