Snow! - March Musings '19/#SOL19/Day3

It came upon an evening clear
with its purpose to adhere.
There was no announcement, no fuss
but its intention to discuss.
Shocked by the fluffy, billowy stuff
I waited for a rebuff.
Perhaps a task to shovel away
white beauty this Saturday?
"No way," he emphatically said.
And so the saga of nature's gift
waits quietly for man's snow shift.

Winter's Embrace

AfterthoughtThe sun came out, just like my husband said, so he did not have to take a snow shift.

Equation Poem: (poetic form created by Laura Purdie Salas)
Gray day + below freezing temperature = snow
Snow - freezing temperature + sun = nature's snow removal

I am now ready to join the #SOL19 community for the March 12th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge Day 3 created by Two Writing Teachers!

  1. I love how you made snow seem so beautiful as left me smiling. Where I live, we are tired of snow come March!

    1. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment. I grew up in Central NY so I understand how tired residents become of late fall to early spring snow. Where do you live?

  2. What a delightful poem you begin with today, Carol. We have cold and wind but no moisture. Sometimes when it is like this, I'd just as soon have the beauty of the snow and an excuse not to leave home. Happy Sunday!

    1. Happy Sunday, Alice. Our snow has pretty much passed on but I hear that there is another larger dropping coming our way tonight. I guess snow will be a topic of discussion for me again.

  3. I love the words snow shift - I enjoy and do all the shoveling most days because my husband has the same thinking - it will melt and in Ohio we never really get a lot.

    1. Snow shift works well for us because we all seem to take different shifts when the snow piles up. This season we did not have to do this so far but tonight should be a much bigger snowfall, Mandy. Sometimes, I do love to shovel because it gives me time to think and admire the beautiful snow.

    1. It is hard to believe that we had only dustings so far and now March is already filled with snow sightings. Prediction for tonight: 4-8 inches!

  5. At this point in winter my feeling is that God put it there. God will take it away.

    1. I laughed at your statement, Robert. The snowstorm we got last night is melting away today but I think it will not be totally gone by tonight. the temperature is going down.

  6. Wow, Carol! I read this poem several times. Each one, a different line stuck out to me. I also love your afterthoughts. I have never heard of an equation poem! So fun for kids to try too!

    1. Laura Purdie Salas created equation poems at her blog and a new book of them was just released. I think it gives children the opportunity to connect math and literacy.

  7. Those opening lines - "It came upon an evening clear/ with its purpose to adhere" - made me giggle. We have had too much of snow this winter & I need some levity. Also, I love the equation poem. Seems like a fun form to try.

    1. Amanda, there has to be an element of levity to keep me inspired to keep writing each day. I am trying to do too many tasks this week and winter is adding another layer. I am sitting in a favorite chair wrapped in a quilt. Mind juices need to keep warm. You should have your students try it.
